CHARLES HURT: Mr. Universe, Donald Trump, takes on The Nine Dwarves

Why is it that the only time Republicans ever do anything interesting, they get dragged into it kicking and screaming? Now comes Donald Trump, in what is sure to be an epic debate faceoff in Cleveland Thursday night. The Donald versus everybody! Published August 4, 2015

CHARLES HURT: Donald Trump talks tough against John McCain; American voters listen

Call him "Teflon Don." Campaigning in Iowa over the weekend, Donald Trump was being, well, Donald Trump, fearlessly bellowing insults without mercy, until he finally landed a big blow on Old John McCain and managed to hit on the ONLY thing you cannot say bad about the senator from Arizona. In mocking and belittling Mr. McCain's tortured service as a downed Navy pilot in a Hanoi prison camp, The Donald's meteoric ascent seemed threatened -- but just for a moment. CHARLES HURT: Atticus Finch: A racist who loved justice

So it turns out a half century on that Atticus Finch -- America's fearless moral compass on matters of race, our Moses of The South -- got old and turned into just another crotchety Archie Bunker, barking about blacks, white outsiders and the meddlesome federal courts. Published July 14, 2015

CHARLES HURT: Obama’s absurd ‘Amazing Grace’

If Jimmy Carter is "history's greatest monster," as deemed by the good people of Springfield in "The Simpsons," then President Obama is "history's most deluded jester." Published June 30, 2015

CHARLES HURT: Dylann Roof kills politicians’ sensibility with Confederate battle flag in S.C.

A self-absorbed loser whose weak mind has been twisted into a haunted house of pharmacological drugs and psychotic Internet fantasies commits unspeakable crimes against some of the very finest, most loving people you could possibly find in this corrupt world. A bipartisan throng of tragedy whores takes the stage to address the wicked travesty. They are going to DO something about this evil crime! They are going to demand -- that a flag be taken down? CHARLES HURT: Jeb Bush trades on name, meets European leaders

Not since Clark Griswold took his family on a European vacation have we seen such goofy antics. Jeb Bush, in a desperate bid to be taken seriously, is cashing in his last name to buy himself a first-class tour of European capitals to hobnob with world leaders, statesmen and dignitaries. CHARLES HURT: The Clinton family soap opera continues

Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the longest-running Southern Gothic soap opera in American history! It is a mix of "Days of Our Lives," "Dr. Phil," "The Sopranos," "Oprah" and "Judge Judy" all rolled into one, long, endless saga called "The Clintons -- a Tale of Naked Ambition, Unquenchable Libido, Towering Greed and Their Desperation to be a Part of Every American's Life as Long as We Live." CHARLES HURT: Alex Rodriguez milestones ignored by Yankees is grosser than gross

Thinking of New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez and his historic milestone of passing Willie Mays' lifetime home run record last week, I was reminded of the jokes kids used to tell one another when they wanted to impress their playground friends with the epic grossness of their imaginations.
