The abolition of women
If there was any remaining question that corporate oligarchs and today's educational ruling class now have near Orwellian control over all of American culture, this week's news should remove all doubt. Published August 2, 2019
‘Do you really want an answer?’
More than 60 years ago, in "The Abolition of Man," C.S. Lewis challenged his readers to wrestle with the key questions of his time with God's natural law as the foundational premise; as the "measuring rod outside of those things being measured." Published July 26, 2019
Freedom equals humility, not pride
It seems that the one thing the left and the right can agree on is that our nation no longer enjoys a binding "cult" of ideological unity, common cause, common sense, i.e. sense that is common. Published July 19, 2019
How to respond to those who use absolutes to refute absolutes
Standard fare for any conservative Christian who dares to open his mouth in the public square today is to be called a "bigot," a "hater" and an "intolerant SOB" for doing so. My experience is no exception. Predictable responses to my weekly columns often include comments such as, "You're an idiot. You are a hateful crank. You are an embarrassment to our community. You're arrogant. You always think that you're right. The real enemy of truth is people like you who want to impose your 'truth' on the rest of us." Published July 14, 2019
The best way to instruct children about their ‘sexual health’ may be to teach them to abstain
This past week, Planned Parenthood celebrated the end of Pride Month by tweeting, "Young LGBTQ people need sex education that addresses their identities and experiences, so that they have the information and skills to take care of their sexual health." Published July 7, 2019
Why believers of the faith must confront sin, not yield to it
This past week, Kevin Mannoia, who presently serves as the chaplain of Azusa Pacific University and who is the past president of the National Association of Evangelicals, testified before the California legislature in favor of Assembly Concurrent Resolution 99 (ACR 99). Published June 30, 2019
Conservatives are actually pro-science, liberals are not
The National Assessment of Educational Progress has issued its "Nation's Report Card" on America's schools and the data is clear. Private schools -- which are mostly religious -- outperform their public-school counterparts in science scores in almost every subcategory, including physical science, life science and earth science. Published June 23, 2019
Words have definitions, and changing and manipulating the meaning of words is called lying
At the risk of coming across as slightly pedantic, I'd like to offer a bit of a lesson as we enter into the last days of June and, thereby, prepare for the upcoming celebration of our nation's birth. Published June 16, 2019
A month of humility is far better than a ‘pride month’
On June 1, 2019, Bishop Thomas Tobin of Providence, Rhode Island, tweeted a reminder to Catholics in his diocese that they should not support this month's "Pride Month." "These events," said the bishop, "promote a culture and encourage activities that are contrary to Catholic faith and morals and especially harmful to children." Published June 9, 2019
Why objectivity and honesty, not politics, must drive science
This past Wednesday, May 29, former Vice President Al Gore spoke to the graduating seniors at Harvard University. A summary of his talk? There is an "assault on science" that threatens "the capacity of the human species to endure" on planet Earth. Published June 2, 2019
When Democrats, a party of no standards, claim the high ground
On May 8, Devon Erickson entered a high school just outside of Denver and shot nine of his classmates and killed one. Published May 26, 2019
A commencement address to all students, grounded in belief and validated by reason
I am passionate about teaching. I adore learning. I love the academy and all the ideals that reside within the four walls of the ivy tower. I have given more than 30 years of my professional life to this enterprise. Published May 19, 2019
Current pack of Democratic candidates seem downright Orwellian
Jonah Goldberg's recent piece, titled "Who Cares About National Unity?" (April 26, 2019, National Review) is the required reading of the week. In fact, dare I suggest, it should be a required reading of the year. Or at least required of every registered voter in the United States before he is allowed to cast his ballot in the next election. This truly is the kind of stuff that every adult who fancies himself a remotely informed voter must read, consider, digest and take to heart if we have any hope of continuing to be a free nation and a free people. Published May 5, 2019
If Democrats can make up definitions, so can everyone else
In the April 23, 2019, edition of the NPR Update, Tom Gjelten posted a column he titled "How Would Jesus Vote?" In that column, Mr. Gjelten presents the South Bend, Indiana mayor, Pete Buttigieg, as a new kind of "Christian" politician a "married" homosexual who favors the eisegesis of inclusion, acceptance and tolerance rather than the exegesis of doctrine, dogma and clear definitions. Published April 28, 2019
The original ‘trans-community’ is the story of Easter
Trans-gendered. Trans-abled. Trans-species. Trans-identity. It is hard to spend more than five minutes reading the daily news without being bombarded by stories about those who tell us of "transitioning" — stories of what has come to be called the "trans-community." Published April 21, 2019
Pete Buttigieg doesn’t get to make up his own Christianity
South Bend, Indiana, mayor and presumptive 2020 presidential candidate, Pete Buttigieg, recently took to the national stage to attack Vice President Mike Pence and, by association, tens of millions of America's orthodox Christians. Published April 14, 2019
Progressive tolerance and millennial love
It is time we face the facts. My industry — our country's educational establishment — has produced a nation of intellectual infants who are incapable of crawling out of their emotional cribs. Published April 7, 2019
Christian business owners who show evidence of faith risk being shut down
If there was any remaining doubt, this past week's news puts it to rest. Christians are now being punished in America. Published March 31, 2019
Removing culture’s soul, one college student at a time
I want you to use your imagination for just a moment. Published March 24, 2019
Today’s colleges are more bastions of speech codes than bulwarks of free speech
Another week in the news, and our nation's colleges and universities have proven once again they have completely lost their minds — and their souls. Published March 10, 2019
