Sian Beilock, a University of Chicago psychologist, professor and author of the book “Choke,” looks at a brain scan from an MRI machine in the lab at the University in Chicago. Ms. Beilock studies the science behind “choking under pressure” and says the problem starts when players start worrying about the consequences of failure, what’s on the line and what others will think of them. “What messes you up is not the worries, but the overattention to detail,” she adds.
