Islamist militants raided the Amenas natural gas field in Algeria on Wednesday, killing two and taking hostages, including some Americans and English, Norwegian and Japanese nationals. Algerian forces later caught up with and surrounded the kidnappers. Negotiations for the release of the hostages were ongoing, officials said. (BP via Associated Press)
