Historically, social democracy was a form of evolutionary reformist socialism. The Frankfurt Declaration of the Socialist International, attended by many social democratic parties from across the world, committed the adherents to the replacement of capitalism with socialism and committed adherents to oppose Bolshevik communism and Stalinism. The social democratic conception of socialism is that of a set of political and ethical values, such as unconditional support for parliamentary democracy, rather than a specific form of social and economic organization. The chief goal of modern social democracy is to reform capitalism to align it with the ethical ideals of social democracy while maintaining the capitalist mode of production, rather than creating an alternative socialist economic system. - Source: Wikipedia
