Dr. Päivi Räsänen, a Finnish member of parliament and the nation's former interior minister, went on trial on Jan. 24 in Helsinki over comments she believes express her religious beliefs on homosexuality. She was found not guilty by a trial court, but Finland’s prosecutor general filed an appeal of the March 30 Helsinki District Court ruling exonerating Ms. Räsänen and Lutheran bishop Juhana Pohjola on criminal “hate speech” charges.
