Scott Blackmun resigns as CEO as USOC addresses wide abuse scandal

Scott Blackmun resigned as chief executive of the U.S. Olympic Committee on Wednesday, stepping aside so he can tackle his worsening bout with prostate cancer and to allow the federation to move forward under new leadership to address the sex-abuse scandal that has rocked gymnastics and other sports.

IOC lifts Olympic ban on Russia after doping scandal

The International Olympic Committee had days earlier voted not to lift the ban in time for the closing ceremony of the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, preventing the Russian athletes at the game from marching under their nation's flag.

Russian Olympics fans resent doping scandal, lack of gold medals

Doping scandals and a distinct lack of gold medals have left Russians with little to cheer about at the Winter Olympics, but sports fans were in full voice on Wednesday afternoon at a central Moscow bar as their men's ice hockey side stormed to a 6-1 win over Norway to book a place in the semifinals.

U.S. women beat Canada for gold in a 3-2 shootout thriller

Lindsey Vonn cast a quick glance toward the sky after finishing what was likely her final Olympic downhill run, shrugged her shoulders at seeing her time and shook a friendly index finger at her good friend. No one could catch Sofia Goggia of Italy.

Nigeria savors its Olympic bobsled debut moment

Briefly leading, finishing last, none of that was the point Tuesday night. Simply getting to the Olympics has been victory enough for this Nigerian team, three women who live in the U.S. and have backgrounds in other sports before deciding to try sliding -- and now, officially, are the first bobsled to represent Africa on the sport's biggest stage.

Premature baby named after curling rock island defies odds

Adam Rippon changes mind and won't accept NBC job

American figure skater Adam Rippon agreed to become an NBC correspondent for the duration of the Olympic games, but then changed his mind overnight. He told NBCSN on Sunday that he was flattered by the offer, "but if I took this opportunity, I would have to leave the Olympic team and I would have to leave the (Olympic) Village."

NBC's ski announcers attempt to explain their blunder

Instead of laughing off or owning up to making a wrong call the night before in the women's super-G, NBC's ski announcers seemed intent on justifying themselves Saturday night.
