Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi (right) shares a word with Lower Chamber President Gianfranco Fini at a ceremony for Armed Forces Day at the Monument of the Unknown Soldier in Rome on Thursday. Mr. Fini is laying the foundation of a new party, challenging his ex-ally, Mr. Berlusconi, for the conservative vote. The two former allies split this summer after feuding over the government's program and the balance of power in the party they co-founded. Mr. Fini was effectively expelled by Mr. Berlusconi from the People of Freedom party. Mr. Fini is expected to turn his Future and Freedom movement into a formal party. (Associated Press)
