The heart of caribou range in August and September is "Game Management Unit" #19. GMU19 contains the Big River Herd and scattered herds located between the Mulchatna River in the south, to the North Fork of the Kuskokwim River in the north. Most hunters see from 20 to 500 caribou per day and it's not uncommon to see impressive herds of several thousand, no matter where you hunt. Guided and unguided hunts are available.
