Eye-popping excuses in American political scandals

Delaware state officials have told Congress they likely destroyed the computer records that would show when and how often they accessed Christine O'Donnell's personal tax records. Larry Craig had a wide stance, Mark Sanford was hiking and Patrick Kennedy was rushing for a vote. Here are some head-scratching explanations for political scandals.

Former Rhode Island Rep. Patrick Kennedy claimed he was "disoriented" by the medication Ambien when he rammed a Capitol Hill checkpoint with his Ford Mustang in 2006. His father, the late Sen. Ted Kennedy, told police in 1969 that he was "was unfamiliar with the road" that led to the notorious Chappaquiddick crash, claiming the life of Mary Jo Kopechne.
