While Vice President Kamala Harris is spending millions on digital ads to boost her campaign, she’s also trying to garner support from younger voters in an analog way: flying banners over college football games.
The Democratic National Committee announced that on Saturday, it’s flying banners before the Michigan, Penn State, and Wisconsin kickoffs.
The DNC said the move is “to remind college students and football fans that a vote for Trump is the same as losing the game, thanks to his dangerous and extreme Project 2025 plans.”
Three different banners were to fly over each stadium, reading:
- “Beat Trump, Sack Project 2025” over Penn State
- “Jump Around! Beat Trump + Project 2025” over Wisconsin
- “JD Vance <3 Ohio State + Project 2025” over Michigan
Sen. Vance is an alum of Michigan’s rival, Ohio State University.
Democrats have made the pairing of the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 with Mr. Trump a cornerstone of their campaign even while the GOP nominee says he has nothing to do with the initiative.
“It’s college football Saturday, and fans are ready to sack the competition and beat Project 2025, which would give Trump unprecedented power, allow Trump to ban abortion nationwide, allow the government to monitor pregnancies and give tax giveaways for billionaires,” said Democratic National Committee Deputy Communications Director Abhi Rahman in a statement. “The DNC is reaching voters where they are in swing states across the country by flying Project 2025 banners over the Big House in Michigan, Beaver Stadium at Penn State and Badger Stadium in Wisconsin.”
According to RealClearPolling’s averages of Michigan and Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, not much daylight exists between the candidates. In Michigan and Wisconsin, Ms. Harris leads by 1 point, while in Pennsylvania, the pair are tied.
