There’s a famous quote often attributed to writer G.K. Chesterton that says, “When men stop believing in God, they don’t believe in nothing; they believe in anything.” That, according to minister and bestselling author Lisa Bevere, is at the very root of the cultural chaos that we’re seeing in America today.

She recently sat down with The Washington Times’ Higher Ground to discuss her new book, “The Fight for Female, Reclaiming Our Divine Identity,” and how she believes demonic forces are taking advantage of a nation that has lost its way — and its identity.

“Right now, the enemy is unmaking people with sin. And when you look at what’s happening in our culture, our culture is under the judgment of God,” she said. “And for me with this book… I work our way through repentance and the realization of conversations that we are having where we are actually affirming lies rather than exposing [them]. If you love people, you don’t lie to them. If you love people, you bring them to the place of freedom and truth.”

Consider the fact that the simple question of “What is a woman?” has become a firestarter in our culture, with entire nations forfeiting previously long-held biological and spiritual truths. But the problem, according to Ms. Bevere has been a long time in the making — starting with what she describes as the “long-term play to deconstruct the family.”

“There has been this idea that women need to eliminate the American patriarchy,” she said. “And the feminists have told us that for a long time, ‘Hey, you want to be powerful? Go into the man’s world and defeat him.’ But I don’t want to be a powerful man. I want to be a powerful woman, which means I need to go back into the Genesis of why did God create woman? We are multipliers; we are not dividers. We are supposed to open our mouths with wisdom and kindness. We’re supposed to fight to protect life, not take life. Everything about our culture is demonically undermining our origin.”

But even then, it’s not feminists who are to blame for where we are now, Ms. Bevere says. Indeed, some feminists today are the most ardent supporters of protecting the female identity and female spaces. The real source has been evident since the Garden of Eden, with women (and men) facing demonic attacks that work to steal, kill, and destroy their divine identities.

“We have to understand that’s what the enemy is after,” she noted. “He goes to the very core so that he could undermine the goodness of God, that connection of God, the intimate awareness that God says to us in Romans 12. He says, ‘Present your body, a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God.’ And yet most of us believe our bodies are wholly unacceptable.”

That’s why Ms. Bevere says it’s critical that women stand up and reclaim their identities. And that starts with equipping Christians to have “constructive conversations” about God’s purpose and truth.

“Every time I turn around, these spiritual forces are arguing with common sense, they are exalting themselves against the knowledge of God — things that you and I have held as principles and truths forever,” she said. “So many Christians, they will not even say these things because they are so afraid of being canceled that they won’t say anything. And while they’re not saying anything, the enemy is filling the void with lies.”

As for the truth, Ms. Bevere hopes to remind her readers that there is only one source of truth: God and His holy word, the Bible.

“I want women to understand that men are not the problem, nor are they the answer. But a vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ and, and the counsel of the Holy Spirit is where you’re going to find life and hope,” she said.
