Vice President Kamala Harris nearly tripled former President Donald Trump’s fundraising haul in August, giving her a cash advantage heading into the campaign’s final months.
The Harris campaign announced Friday that it raised $361 million last month and has $404 million in cash on hand. The Trump campaign said earlier this week that it raised $130 million in August and had $295 million in cash on hand.
“In just a short time, Vice President Harris’ candidacy has galvanized a history-making, broad, and diverse coalition – with the type of enthusiasm, energy, and grit that wins close elections,” said Julie Chavez Rodriguez, Harris’s campaign manager. “As we enter the final stretch of this election, we’re making sure every hard-earned dollar goes to winning over the voters who will decide this election.”
President Biden’s decision to drop out of the race and endorse Ms. Harris following his disastrous debate performance has shaken up the race significantly.
Since then, Ms. Harris has raised a whopping $615 million, underscoring the excitement her candidacy has generated among Democrats.
Her campaign declared that her August haul was “the best grassroots fundraising month in presidential history.”
Still, Ms. Harris runs neck-and-neck with Mr. Trump in key battleground states, adding to the race’s uncertainty.
Ms. Harris and Mr. Trump are slated to meet on the debate stage Tuesday in Philadelphia for the first — and perhaps only — time in the race.
