The Harris campaign said it was “proud” to receive an endorsement from former GOP Rep. Liz Cheney, a longtime foe of former President Donald Trump.
“She is a patriot who loves this country and puts our democracy and our Constitution first,” Harris-Walz campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon said in a statement.
“As she noted in her powerful remarks, this election is a choice between the fundamental threat Donald Trump poses to our democracy and a leader who will stand up for our freedoms and the rule of law in Vice President Harris,” she said.
The former Wyoming congresswoman announced Wednesday she would be voting for Vice President Kamala Harris in November.
“I think it is crucially important for people to recognize, not only is what I just said about the danger that Trump poses something that should prevent people from voting for him, but I don’t believe that we have the luxury of writing in candidates’ names, particularly in swing states,” Ms. Cheney said during an event at Duke University in North Carolina.
Ms. Cheney, daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, has been a vocal critic of Mr. Trump. She spoke out against Mr. Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election and voted to impeach him.
She served on the House Select Committee that investigated the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, then lost reelection in 2022 to a Trump-backed candidate.
She has said before she will do what’s necessary to make sure Mr. Trump doesn’t get a second White House term.
