Phoenix has had temperatures of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or more for 100 consecutive days, with triple-digit heat continuing into Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

The high in Phoenix Wednesday was projected to be 111, the NWS Phoenix Office posted on X, and the hot streak is expected to continue through at least Sunday.

The heat has taken a toll on area residents, with 177 confirmed deaths in Maricopa County connected to the high temperatures as of Saturday, according to county officials. An additional 436 deaths are under investigation.

Workers have had to adjust.

“I’ve learned to drink lots of sports drinks and make sure I’m done by 1 p.m. Otherwise, it’s just too much,” landscaper Ramiro Lopez told The Associated Press.

In addition to the daily streak, another heat mark is slated to be broken in Phoenix this week. As it stands, the record for the number of days with temperatures at 110 degrees or more in a year in the Arizona capital is 55, which was set in 2023.

That mark could go by the wayside on Friday.
