Former CNN TV personality Brian Stelter, who hosted “Reliable Sources” on Sundays from 2013 to 2022, is returning to the cable news network as its chief media analyst.

Mr. Stelter announced the news via email Tuesday to subscribers of CNN’s “Reliable Sources” newsletter, which he founded in 2015.

The newsletter went on hiatus after the departure of Oliver Darcy.

Mr. Stelter said that he would once again be writing the newsletter, with its official relaunch coming on Monday, would be developing unspecified digital content and appearing on TV in his role as a media analyst.

Mr. Stelter did not say which shows he’d be appearing on, but did write that “I loved my old life as the anchor of a Sunday morning show but, to borrow some lingo from my video game blogger days, I finished that level of the game.”

He also wrote that his time away changed his perspective on the media.

“After 20+ years as a news junkie, I changed my habits and tuned out for a bit. I also changed my vantage point, moving from Manhattan to a horse farm near one of Donald Trump’s golf clubs. I experienced the news more like an everyday consumer, and in doing so, I learned a whole lot about the attention economy and the information ecosystem,” Mr. Stelter wrote.
