The violent civil war raging in Sudan has brought horrific atrocities and the largest displacement crisis ever recorded inside a single country, with the risk now of mass famine a daily reality in the Northeast African nation. National Security Editor Guy Taylor sits down with U.S. Institute of Peace Africa Programs Director Susan Stigant for a wide-ranging discussion on what caused the current fighting and whether or not the U.S. has an effective humanitarian and security policy for the conflict that’s intersecting with Chinese, Russian and Iranian efforts to gain influence in the region.
