Former first lady Melania Trump said she was “angry” about the Trump Mar-a-Lago residence being raided in connection to the classified documents case against former President Donald Trump.

“Yeah, it made me angry. Yes. Invasion of privacy. And, the way it was done, I was really surprised,” Mrs. Trump said in a “Fox & Friends” interview that aired Thursday.

The Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, was searched in August 2022 for classified documents. Boxes of items were taken as part of the case brought by special counsel Jack Smith.

Host Ainsley Earhardt said Mrs. Trump asked her house manager not to touch anything after the raid because she wanted to see everything.

“I saw unpleasant stuff that nobody wants to see it. And you get angry because, you know, nobody should be putting up with that kind of stuff. Some person, I don’t even know who, or how many people they, you know, they went through my stuff,” the former first lady said.

The case was dismissed by U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon in July, but Mr. Smith has urged a federal appeals court to revive it.

Mrs. Trump recounted the two assassination attempts on her husband — the one on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania, ahead of the Republican National Convention where his ear was hit by a bullet and another at his Palm Beach golf club on Sept. 15.

She said the first attempt was “very difficult” on their son, Barron, who was outside playing a sport before he “rushed in.”

She said the Secret Service did a “fantastic” job when they caught Ryan Wesley Routh outside the golf course fence with a weapon.

“I think something was watching over him. I think he’s, it’s almost like, the country really needs him,” she said.

Mrs. Trump said the rhetoric by leaders in the Democratic Party against her husband fuels “a toxic atmosphere” and gives “power” to people who want to harm him.

“This needs to stop. This needs to stop,” she said.  “The country needs to unite.”

Mrs. Trump has a memoir titled “Melania” coming out on Oct. 8. She has been promoting it on her website and in social media posts.

“The former First Lady invites readers into her world, offering an intimate portrait of a woman who has lived an extraordinary life,” MelaniaTrump.com says of the book. “Melania includes personal stories and family photos she has never before shared with the public.”
