Take a look around at all the mental illness on display in America’s streets rights now, not to mention the lunatic fringe that’s been elevated to normalcy — LGBTQ, anyone? — and the question pops: What the heck is going on, America?

George Barna, founder of The Barna Group, which is a firm that studies religion in America, has new data showing a definite link between mental illness and atheism — or, more specifically, a correlation between those who do not have a biblical worldview and those who are mentally ill.

“Essentially what we found was a fairly strong correlation between a person’s worldview and their mental health,” Barna says.

“If you have a biblical worldview …all of that goes a long way toward giving you better mental health, in other words, reducing the likelihood of you having instances of anxiety, depression, fear,” he went on.

Now if only Americans and American leaders would acknowledge that link.

“Getting worldview right is critical,” Barna says, “because it’s going to impact everything you do.”

And that explains a lot of why America is facing such dark times right now.
