Count former President Donald Trump among the famous faces expected at Saturday’s highly anticipated matchup between No. 2 Georgia and No. 4 Alabama.
The Republican presidential nominee’s presence will up the wattage for Saturday night’s mega clash, according to first-year Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer.
“Everyone’s watching, so it’ll be great to have everyone who wants to come watch be here,” the coach said Monday when asked about Mr. Trump. “It is kind of cool that we have a lot of people who want to come be a part of the atmosphere and add to the excitement and energy the game will bring.”
Saturday’s excursion, which will bring increased security protocols to Tuscaloosa’s Bryant-Denny Stadium, isn’t Mr. Trump’s first visit to college football country. As president in January 2018, he was on hand for the national title game between Alabama and Georgia in Atlanta.
Two years later, he witnessed LSU versus Clemson in New Orleans, with thousands of fans greeting the president with chants of “USA, USA” and “four more years!”
Alabama officials said a private citizen invited Mr. Trump to this week’s game, and his campaign confirmed his attendance.
