Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt caused a stir last week when he said the Washington Commanders had a “college offense.”

There went that idea. Quarterback Jayden Daniels led that simple offense with 254 passing yards and two touchdowns in Washington’s 38-33 victory over the Bengals on Monday night.

Despite the loss, Taylor-Britt stood by his comments after the game.

“I do not regret it,” he said. “And I didn’t mean anything malicious out of the comment. It was made bigger than what it was. Yes, I can eat my words, most definitely. We did take an L today as a team, but it was sort of a college offense. Very quick, clean throws.”

Daniels and the Commanders dismantled the Bengals’ defense, marching down the field to score on six possessions. Taylor-Britt was also the primary defender on a 55-yard pass to wide receiver Terry McLaurin that set up Washington for its first touchdown of the game.

It’s easy to defend trash talk after a win, but Bengals coach Zac Taylor said he’d chat with Taylor-Britt after his squad’s 0-3 start.

“That’s not what we do,” Taylor said after the game. “We praise our own team. We praise the other team. We don’t need to take shots like that. That team hasn’t punted in two weeks. They’ve scored on every single possession the last two weeks.”

Though the Commanders’ players and coaches didn’t acknowledge the defensive back’s comments leading up to the game, the team’s social media account poked fun at Taylor-Britt in its victory graphic.

“Not bad for a college offense,” the Commanders, 2-1, wrote on X after the win.
