Travel website Kayak recently rated the District of Columbia its best U.S. destination for people touring by themselves. The city’s concentration of museums and other cultural attractions helped place them No. 1.

Washington was the only city of 15 used for last month’s rankings to get a 100% score.

D.C. has 21.17 museums, theaters and concert halls per 100,000 people, well above San Francisco at second place with 16.54 per 100,000 people, per the Kayak rankings.

Washington came in fourth place in the rating of its hotel rooms by people traveling alone at 7.5, behind Seattle’s 7.9 and Boston and Chicago’s 7.6.

The city tied for second with Austin, Texas, for average cost per meal for a solo traveler at $47, behind only Salt Lake City’s $38.

In other categories, D.C. was in the middle of the pack, including for the average price of a round-trip flight at $362 and the average nightly price of a hotel room at $275.

Outside of the statistical rankings, Kayak highlighted D.C.’s historical attractions, tours and nightlife as reasons to go, with blue crabs, Peruvian chicken and Ethiopian highlighted as dining options.

Restaurant reservation service OpenTable, which is owned by the same company as Kayak, also contributed to the rankings. Cafe du Parc, Bistro Du Jour, the District Wharf, Via Sophia and the Tabard Inn were OpenTable’s restaurant recommendations for solo visitors to D.C.

The top five U.S. cities to visit solo were D.C. followed by Boston, Chicago, Atlanta and Salt Lake City. Texas cities did poorly, with Austin, Dallas and Houston rated in the bottom five for solo travelers. San Antonio was not one of the 15 cities.
