Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said Friday that Vice President Kamala Harris has made a mess of California and will “turn America into a poor, violent, third-world refugee camp.”
Speaking at a news conference at his golf course in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, Mr. Trump said Ms. Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, is soft on crime and weak on immigration.
“We cannot allow Comrade Kamala Harris and the communist left to do to America what they did to California,” Mr. Trump said. “The state of California is a mess.”
“California has the highest inflation, the highest taxes, the highest gas prices, the most illegal aliens, the most regulations, the expensive utilities, and it ranks as the third worst state to start a business,” Mr. Trump said.
Polls show that Mr. Trump and Ms. Harris are locked in a competitive race eight weeks from Election Day, and early voting is set to begin in some states.
Both campaigns want to solidify their support bases and persuade undecided voters to join their teams.
Eyeing those voters, Mr. Trump is casting Ms. Harris’ record in nightmarish terms.
Ms. Harris represented Calfiornia in the U.S. Senate. Before that, she served as California’s attorney general and district attorney of San Francisco.
Mr. Trump said Ms. Harris had supported policies that hurt law enforcement and opened the door for criminals and illegal immigrants to run wild.
He said it has been more of the same since she started serving as President Biden’s loyal sidekick.
Under the Biden-Harris administration, Mr. Trump said crime has been on the rise, “325,000 migrant children are missing, and Venezuelan gangs are gaining strength inside the United States.
“You think Biden’s bad?” Mr. Trump said. “This one is going to be worse than Biden.”
