The New York Court of Appeals has rejected former President Donald Trump’s appeal to lift the gag order on him for his criminal hush money case.
Mr. Trump, who was convicted for this case in May, has tried to get the gag order removed, but the dismissal by New York’s highest court means the former president is stuck with it.
The court said the appeal was dismissed “upon the ground that no substantial constitutional question is directly involved.”
The partial gag order was placed on him at the beginning of the case, and ever since he was convicted, his lawyers have tried to get it lifted. The order stops him from talking about prosecutors and court staff involved in the case until his November sentencing.
Mr. Trump has said it violates his right to free speech. During the trial, he violated his gag order numerous times, and was fined by Judge Juan Merchan.
The gag was partially lifted in June, allowing the former president to comment on the witnesses and jurors in the case.
Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said in a statement that Mr. Trump will “continue to fight against” the orders.
He also had gag orders placed on him for his civil case in New York, along with his election interference case in Washington.
