Vice President Kamala Harris insisted Tuesday she does not want to ban fracking for natural gas, saying the U.S. needs a broad portfolio of energy sources.
Ms. Harris was confronted with her flip-flop from the 2020 race when she floated a ban on fracking. The issue is sensitive in Pennsylvania, which has a robust energy sector that includes fracking.
“My values have not changed,” Ms. Harris said. “My position is we have got to invest in diverse sources of energy so we reduce our reliance on foreign oil. We have had the largest increase of domestic oil production in history.”
Ms. Harris’s shifting position on energy is a main attack point for Mr. Trump. He says he would “drill, baby, drill” if he takes office and frequently says the Biden-Harris policy of reducing fossil fuels would only benefit China.
“Fracking? She’s been against it for 12 years,” Mr. Trump said, adding she shifted away from defunding the police. “She wants to confiscate your guns and she will never allow fracking in Pennsylvania.”
Mr. Trump said the price of energy has soared under the Biden-Harris administration.
“I got the oil business going like nobody’s done before,” Mr. Trump said. “You ever see a solar plant? By the way, I’m a big fan of solar. But they take 400, 500 acres of desert soil.”
