Former President Donald Trump said Tuesday that Vice President Kamala Harris has tacked so far toward his own positions on immigration and other policies that he is “going to send her a MAGA hat.”
That draw a laugh from Ms. Harris, as the two faced off in Philadelphia in their only scheduled debate of the presidential campaign.
Mr. Trump was complaining about trying to pin down Ms. Harris’ positions, saying that her left-leaning stances she held four years ago have gone out the window as she tries to recalibrate herself for the general election.
“I was going to send her a MAGA hat,” he said.
Mr. Trump later told voters that he believes Ms. Harris hasn’t really shifted her positions and, if she wins the White House, the liberal stances she held before will come back.
“She’s a Marxist. Everybody knows she’s a Marxist,” he said.
