OPINION:
There must be some logical reason the Democrats continue to prop up President Biden. The only discernible reason is to protect Vice President Kamala Harris from having to keep any of the promises she’s making on the campaign trail.
Nevertheless, Mr. Biden is still in office, and his words must be taken seriously.
In last Friday’s surprise appearance in the White House newsroom, Mr. Biden said that he was unsure whether Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was delaying any agreement on a cease-fire with Hamas to influence our election. Mr. Biden said, “Whether he’s trying to influence the election, I don’t know, but I’m not counting on that.”
We know that Russia, China, Iran and probably North Korea are trying to influence our election. Why lump Israel into that group of enemies?
It’s quite simple. It’s part of the Harris campaign’s effort to include Israel among the worst nations and get the American Muslim vote. And there’s a larger issue.
Mr. Biden went on to praise Ms. Harris as his closest adviser, saying: “Now, she was a major player in everything we’ve done, including passage of legislation which we were told we could never pass. And so she’s been, and her, her staff is interlocked with mine in terms of all the things we’re doing.”
Whether he meant to help or harm Ms. Harris’ campaign, Mr. Biden said clearly that Ms. Harris’ presidency would amount to his second term.
Mr. Biden’s weakness will beget more of the same from Ms. Harris. She is, as he said, his doppelganger.
We have to begin at home because our national security is greatly threatened by the millions of immigrants that the administration has allowed into our country illegally. According to the Department of Homeland Security, at least 660,000 illegal immigrants with criminal records have been admitted. That includes about 13,000 murderers and 16,000 who have been convicted of sexual assault.
They don’t include the approximately 2 million “gotaways” who have eluded the Border Patrol. Among them must be terrorists and spies.
For other examples, we have to look at Russia, Ukraine, Israel and NATO.
Russia’s war on Ukraine has gone on for almost three years. It is likely that the Russian invasion would have never occurred but for Mr. Biden’s weakness in withdrawing from Afghanistan in 2021 and his ineffective diplomacy to dissuade Vladimir Putin from ordering the invasion.
As part of its supplemental funding for the war in Ukraine, Congress required Mr. Biden to submit a strategy for the war. He has done so, but he has classified it, preventing public debate. He has promised $8 billion more in aid while preventing Congress from seeing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s plan for victory.
Congress should not appropriate any more funds for that war while Mr. Biden conceals his and Mr. Zelenskyy’s plans.
As this column has pointed out repeatedly, Mr. Biden has done nothing to help the Israelis bring the remaining U.S. and Israeli hostages home. Instead, he demanded cease-fire agreements that were uniformly rejected by Hamas. Mr. Biden’s actions have been the same regarding Israel’s conflict on its northern border with another of Iran’s terrorist proxies, Hezbollah.
Mr. Biden and his diplo-dunces stuck to their demands for cease-fires while Israel began an invasion of Lebanon. On Oct. 1, Iran fired about 200 missiles at Israel. Fortunately, with the help of U.S. and Jordanian forces, Israeli’s antimissle systems shot down almost all of the Iranian missiles, and no Israelis were reportedly harmed.
Last April, when another direct Iranian attack on Israel was also thwarted, Mr. Biden told Mr. Netanyahu to “take the win” (for not suffering enormous casualties and destruction) and not strike back.
Mr. Biden has told the Israelis not to respond to the latest Iranian attack with a counterstrike at Iran’s nuclear weapons sites. He has indicated that striking Iran’s oil facilities would meet with U.S. approval.
Why should Mr. Biden try to limit Israel’s strategy? Mr. Netanyahu should and probably will ignore Mr. Biden’s advice. He knows that Iran’s deployment of nuclear weapons is the greatest threat to Israel’s existence.
Mr. Biden says he wants Ukraine to become a NATO member, which is one of the worst ideas to come along in many a year because it would mean a NATO war with Russia.
Let’s not forget our least reliable NATO ally, Turkey, and its president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who supports Hamas. In his U.N. speech, Mr. Erdogan compared Israel to Nazi Germany, accused it of genocide and demanded that the U.N. force a cease-fire to stop the war in the Gaza Strip.
There was no criticism of Mr. Erdogan by either Mr. Biden or Ms. Harris, who are content with Mr. Erdogan’s enmity toward Israel.
There is no reason to believe that electing Ms. Harris will improve any of these situations. Weakness begets weakness. Ms. Harris will continue Mr. Biden’s blind cruise into a war that we are unprepared to win.
