Former first lady Melania Trump said her husband, former President Donald Trump, knew about her beliefs about abortion before they were revealed in her new memoir.

“He knew my position and my beliefs since the day we met. And I believe in individual freedom. I want to decide what I want to do with my body,” Mrs. Trump said in an interview on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.”

“I don’t want government in my personal business,” she said. “I think it’s very important.”

The former first lady was discussing her new memoir “Melania,” which comes out next week.

“It’s very well explained in the chapter — what does really my body, my choice mean. Because timing really matters and also the restrictions,” she said.

She said she added that topic in her book because she wanted to be “authentic.”

“I’m very selective what I do and when I’m doing interviews or not, or where I am or not, and this is my story,” Mrs. Trump said. “This is my perspective and the truth.”

She said her husband knew her beliefs and knew it would be in the book.

“He let me be who I am, and he let me believe what I believe. He let me be my own person,” she said. “He respects that, and I respect that as I let him be his own person. He has different beliefs, and he will do what he believes.”

In a video posted Thursday on X, Mrs. Trump said there is “no room for compromise” when it comes to women’s freedom and their bodies.”

Excerpts revealed that the book goes into more detail regarding her views.

“Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to determine what she does with her own body? A woman’s fundamental right of individual liberty, to her own life, grants her the authority to terminate her pregnancy if she wishes,” Mrs. Trump writes, according to excerpts.

Her position is notable, since her husband appointed the Supreme Court justices who helped overturn Roe v. Wade in 2022. Mr. Trump often nots that he appointed the justices who overturned the landmark case and returned jurisdiction on abortion to the states.

Abortion has been one of the most talked about topics this election cycle. Democrats have made the issue a key talking point, saying Republicans can’t be trusted with women’s rights.

When asked Sunday if she was worried about people choosing not to vote for the Trump ticket because of the Republican views on abortion, the former first lady said she doesn’t worry.

“I don’t worry,” Mrs. Trump said. “Everybody needs to decide what they want to do.”
