Arnold Schwarzenegger wants you to get to da polling place — for Vice President Kamala Harris.
The superstar actor and former Republican governor of California said he doesn’t care for either party right now but is voting for the Democratic ticket because he thinks former President Donald Trump would usher in “four more years of bulls—-” and divide the country.
“We need to close the door on this chapter of American history, and I know that former President Trump won’t do that,” Mr. Schwarzenegger said in a lengthy X post. “He will divide, he will insult, he will find new ways to be more un-American than he already has been, and we, the people, will get nothing but more anger.
“That’s enough reason for me to share my vote with all of you. I want to move forward as a country, and even though I have plenty of disagreements with their platform, I think the only way to do that is with Harris and [Tim] Walz.”
Mr. Schwarzenegger, 77, was born in Austria and rose to fame through bodybuilding and roles in action and comedy films. He became a U.S. citizen and from 2003-11 served as the Golden State’s governor.
He posted that he doesn’t like to do endorsements and hates politics “more than ever, which, if you are a normal person who isn’t addicted to this crap, you probably understand.
“Let me be honest with you: I don’t like either party right now. My Republicans have forgotten the beauty of the free market, driven up deficits and rejected election results. Democrats aren’t any better at dealing with deficits, and I worry about their local policies hurting our cities with increased crime.”
Mr. Schwarzenegger slammed Mr. Trump as someone “who won’t respect your vote unless it is for him” and stood by while his supporters marched on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. The actor also said the GOP nominee is too focused on tax cuts for the wealthy and “thinks Americans who disagree with him are the bigger enemies than China, Russia or North Korea.”
Mr. Schwarznegger is the latest celebrity to support Ms. Harris, who recently held events with Beyonce and Bruce Springsteen.
Mr. Trump says the big-name endorsements reflect a Democratic candidate out of touch with working people and catering to the elite.
Mr. Schwarzenegger said it’s important for Americans to vote even if they disagree with him.
“Because that’s what we do as Americans,” he wrote.
