Former Rep. Liz Cheney will hit the campaign trail with Vice President Kamala Harris when the Democratic nominee stops Thursday in Wisconsin at the birthplace of the Republican Party.
Ms. Harris and Ms. Cheney will visit the one-room schoolhouse, built in Ripon in 1853, which is a historic landmark as the meeting site where the Republican Party formed in 1854.
Ms. Harris will discuss the significance and history of the start of the Republican Party and stress that she will uphold the Constitution and the rule of law, a senior campaign official said.
The vice president will then travel to Michigan. Former President Donald Trump will be in Michigan on Thursday, as the two duke it out over the swing states.
Ms. Cheney was once a top Republican on the House committee that investigated the Jan.6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol and voted to impeach Mr. Trump. A staunch anti-Trumper, she announced last month that she would support Ms. Harris.
“As a conservative, as someone who believes in and cares about the Constitution, I have thought deeply about this. And because of the danger that Donald Trump poses, not only am I not voting for Donald Trump, but I will be voting for Kamala Harris,” Ms. Cheney said.
Her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, has also said he will support Ms. Harris. They join several other Republicans who have decided that Mr. Trump is not the right fit for the GOP or the White House.
