Former President Donald Trump on Thursday ripped the Biden administration’s response to Hurricane Helene, accusing the president of mishandling the crisis as badly as with the porous U.S. border.
“Kamala and Sleepy Joe are universally being POOR GRADES for the way that they are handling the Hurricane, especially in North Carolina. It is going down as the WORST & MOST INCOMPETENTLY MANAGED ’STORM’ AT THE FEDERAL LEVEL EVER SEEN BEFORE — BUT THEIR MANAGEMENT OF THE BORDER IS EVEN WORSE,” he posted on Truth Social.
The death toll from Helene has jumped to at least 191 across six states, according to the government. North Carolina has felt the brunt of it with 95 deaths.
Roughly 1 million people are still without power across the Carolinas, Georgia, Florida, Virginia and West Virginia. North Carolina has the most outages after major portions of the power grid were washed away, according to Duke Energy. The company said it’s eyeing a “complete rebuild” of the grid in North and South Carolina.
Neither President Biden nor Vice President Kamala Harris was in Washington as the storm ripped through the Southeast. Mr. Biden was at his beach house in Delaware. Ms. Harris attended high-dollar fundraisers in California.
Mr. Biden planned to survey storm damage in Florida and Georgia on Thursday. The day before, he visited the Carolinas for briefings.
In Ms. Harris’ visit to Georgia, she vowed that the government would help storm victims.
Mr. Trump was in Georgia on Monday to deliver truckloads of fuel, water and equipment.
