Vice President Kamala Harris knows she has a problem with men.
The Democratic presidential nominee was caught on a hot-mic moment over the weekend in Michigan acknowledging her campaign’s issues with male voters.
Ms. Harris was at the Trak Houz Bar and Grill in Kalamazoo, conversing with Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
“So, my thing is we need to move ground among men,” Ms. Harris can be heard telling Ms. Whitmer, according to a clip of the moment posted by Fox News.
The vice president then notices the cameras.
“Oh, we have microphones in here just listening to everything,” an agitated Ms. Harris says. “I didn’t realize that!”
Polling has indeed consistently shown that Ms. Harris is doing poorly with male voters, and the campaign and sympathetic media have made numerous moves consistent with that belief.
For example, a Quinnipiac survey in Michigan found Mr. Trump leading by 19 percentage points — 56% to 37% — among men, though the state is still a tossup because Ms. Harris has a 17-point lead in the same poll among women.
The Harris campaign has made more appeals tailored at male voters than Democratic campaigns usually do, deploying vice-presidential nominee Tim Walz in a hunting photo-op and an ad working on his car’s air filter.
