The upcoming election could not have come at a better time. Reflecting on the actions of the Biden-Harris administration, it seems absurd to think that the threat to democracy here is a man willing to serve french fries at a McDonald’s (“Trump-Harris McDonald’s controversy: What to know,” web, Oct. 22)

This election is about more than voters’ political affiliations; it is a referendum on the current direction of our country. Vice President Kamala Harris recently asked, “What do the people want?”

Oh, where do I start? We want acknowledgment that leads to accountability. We want the finger-pointing to stop, and we want solutions. We want commonsense policies that prioritize taxpayer interests.

The current administration has refused to explain to voters why it has done its best to dismantle every policy of Donald Trump — despite bountiful evidence that those policies were working. That’s spite, not sense.

President Biden and Ms. Harris have wholly ignored American interests. Parents who voice concerns over school curricula are called “terrorists” by the attorney general. The Department of Education ignores parents’ concerns about biological males participating in girls’ sports. Department of Homeland Security official Wilson Osorio provides information on social media about how illegal immigrants can evade border security. Our judicial system continues to release illegal immigrants who are arrested for criminal activities. I could go on.

Voters want foreign policy that projects strength and reduces election interference and attempts to exploit American hospitality. We want safety and security, not the fear we’ve felt for four years thanks to criminals who have been allowed to run amok. The presidential election is the only time we voters get to chart a new course. Let’s take the opportunity.
