Minnesota authorities have launched an investigation after “Walz Failed” was painted on the roof of the governor’s mansion in St. Paul.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety said Wednesday it’s trying to figure out when someone spray-painted the message on the home of Gov. Tim Walz, the running mate of Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris.

NBC News affiliate KARE-TV flew its helicopter over the governor’s mansion and spotted the black-lettered image emblazoned on a silver-tinted air conditioning unit.

The mansion has been vacant since last year due to ongoing renovations, the station reported. Mr. Walz and his family have been staying at the University of Minnesota’s Eastcliff mansion in the interim.

KARE reported that Mr. Walz was in the state to cast his ballot early when the graffiti was discovered.

He was first elected governor of Minnesota in 2018.
