Former President Donald Trump said special counsel Jack Smith would be gone immediately if he’s reelected in November.

Conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt asked Mr. Trump Thursday if he would rather pardon himself or fire Mr. Smith, the man overseeing the 2020 election interference and classified documents cases against the former president.

“It’s so easy. I would fire him within two seconds,” Mr. Trump said. “He’ll be one of the first things addressed.”

The judge overseeing the classified documents case out of Florida dismissed it in July, but Mr. Smith is appealing the decision.

The election interference case out of Washington won’t go to trial before the election and may never continue if Mr. Trump wins.

When asked if he was ready to possibly get impeached for the third time if he gets elected and fires Mr. Smith, Mr. Trump dismissed that idea.

“No, I don’t think they’ll impeach me if I fire Jack Smith. Jack Smith is a scoundrel. He’s a very dishonest man, in my opinion, very dishonest man,” he said.

Mr. Trump has repeatedly claimed that the criminal cases against him are just election interference.
