The Cybertruck passed most of the competition last quarter, defeating every non-Tesla electric vehicle in sales.
According to sales figures posted by Kelly Blue Book this week, the Cybertruck was the third best-selling EV in Q3, selling just over 16,000 units. The two EV models that sold better than the Cybertruck were Tesla’s Model Y SUV and Model 3 sedan.
The Cybertruck smashed its main competitor, the F-150 Lighting, in sales, with Ford selling 7,000 of those units in the past quarter.
Ford remained the second-largest EV seller in the U.S., reporting a 12% boost in sales and 13,000 sold Mustang SUVs.
The Cybertruck’s impressive performance in Q3 coincides with a solid earnings report from Tesla. This week, the company reported an increase in quarter-over-quarter and year-over-year sales. According to the report, Tesla sold 462,890 vehicles, up from the 435,059 it sold last year and 6.4% more than in Q2.
Tesla’s Q3 profits were likely bolstered by the company’s decision to cut costs in 2024. Earlier this year, the EV giant announced it would make severe staffing cuts, including to its Supercharger teams. While Tesla has since backpedaled slightly on those cuts, rehiring much of its Supercharger team, the effects were noticeable in its earnings report. The report noted 20% year-over-year growth in its Supercharger stations, the lowest in years.
