Los Angeles Lakers players LeBron James and Bronny James celebrated NBA history on Tuesday when they became the first father-son duo to play in an NBA game together. But hours before the game, the pair were named as defendants in a lawsuit stemming from a 2022 car crash.

The lawsuit, which TMZ first reported, claims that the Jameses caused a crash in Littlerock, California, in November 2022. Plaintiffs April Almanza Lopez and Kiara Rae McGillen noted that their vehicle lost value and they required medical attention from injuries suffered in the crash.

Lopez and McGillen are seeking unspecified damages, according to the report. A hearing is scheduled for Feb. 19.

The James family has not publicly commented on the lawsuit.

The off-court drama didn’t seem to impact the Jameses when they faced the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday. The younger James recorded a rebound and two missed shots during his NBA debut, while his father posted 16 points, five rebounds and four assists in the 110-103 home win.

“That moment, us being at the scorer’s table together and checking in together is something I will never forget,” the elder James said after the game. “No matter how old I get, no matter how my memory may fade as I get older or whatever, I will never forget that moment.”
