Tech giant Meta suspended several Instagram and Threads accounts connected to Jack Sweeney, who tracked the private jets of celebrities.

Mr. Sweeney confirmed the suspensions on Monday, claiming that Meta gave him no warnings or explanation.

“Jack Dorsey was right — neither X nor Threads (with its faux decentralization via Fediverse plugin) offers a real solution,” Mr. Sweeney wrote in a statement. “These platforms don’t care about transparency. They selectively enforce their rules, allowing some users to stay while others are shut down without reason.”

Mr. Sweeney’s various Meta accounts tracked the locations of private jets owned by celebrities such as former President Donald Trump, Taylor Swift, Elon Musk and Kim Kardashian. All of the data published through Mr. Sweeney’s accounts is publicly available.

The decision to ban Mr. Sweeney’s accounts came from Meta’s Oversight Board, which ruled that the accounts constituted a significant risk to the physical health of the celebrities they tracked, violating Meta’s privacy policy. The decision cannot be appealed, according to Mr. Sweeney.

To date, Mr. Sweeney has had 38 account suspensions across various social media platforms. Earlier this year, Mr. Sweeney’s X account @Elonjet was suspended after Mr. Musk accused the profile of contributing to an assassination attempt against him. Additionally, Ms. Swift threatened legal action against Mr. Sweeney if he didn’t stop publishing the location of her private jet.
