Vice President Kamala Harris is criticizing former President Donald Trump for a spate of canceled television interviews and reports from a campaign adviser that he is “exhausted.”

“And now he is ducking debates and canceling interviews,” Ms. Harris said at a campaign rally Friday in Grand Rapids, Michigan. “And check this out. His own campaign team recently said it is because of exhaustion.”

“Well if you are exhausted on the campaign trail, it raises real questions about whether you’re fit for the toughest job in the world,” she said.

Mr. Trump this week scuttled planned sit-downs with NBC’s Philadelphia affiliate and CNBC’s “Squawk Box.” Earlier this month, he backed out of a planned “60 Minutes” interview.

The Shade Room, a website targeting young Black men, tried to set up an interview with Mr. Trump after hosting Ms. Harris last week. Staff for the media outlet said the Trump campaign dragged its feet for weeks before saying the former president was “exhausted and refusing [some] interview but that could change.”

Trump spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt issued a statement Thursday night saying the assertions by the Shade Room were “unequivocally false.”

“President Trump is running laps around Kamala Harris on the campaign trail,” she said, “and has done media interviews every day this week. He has more energy and a harder work ethic than anyone in politics.”
