The Harris campaign on Friday released an ad featuring crooner Marc Anthony urging Latino voters to back the vice president in next month’s election.
In the 60-second ad, Mr. Anthony rips former President Donald Trump for a supposed lack of action in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria in 2017 as well as separating families of illegal immigrants.
“This election goes way beyond political parties. Let’s remember what the United States represents and stands for: United, regardless of where we came from,” he says.
The ad includes footage of the devastation in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria and Mr. Trump tossing paper towels into the crowd.
Mr. Anthony also recalls Mr. Trump’s comments during his 2016 campaign launch, when he referred to some Mexican illegal immigrants as “criminals” and “rapists.”
“Even though some have forgotten, I remember what it was like when Donald Trump was president,” Mr. Anthony says.
The ad is part of Ms. Harris’ $370 million ad buy through Nov. 5 targeting Latino voters. It will air nationally on Telemundo and WAPA America TV during Sunday’s Billboard Latin Music Awards and in Pennsylvania on Telemundo and Univision, according to the Harris campaign.
Ms. Harris has stronger support among Hispanic voters than Mr. Trump, but that backing is soft compared with President Biden in 2020.
A New York Times/Siena College poll of Hispanic voters released last week found that 56% said they would vote for Ms. Harris, while 37% want Mr. Trump. In 2020, Mr. Biden captured 65% of Latino voters versus 32% who went for Mr. Trump.
