OPINION:
Desperate times call for desperate measures.
With just 19 days to go until Election Day, Vice President Kamala Harris has adopted a frantic, discombobulated strategy of throwing everything she can find at Donald Trump to see if anything sticks.
It’s become obvious that with millions of hardworking Americans struggling to make ends meet due to inflation, illegal immigrants being prioritized over U.S. citizens and wars raging around the globe, Ms. Harris’ message of more of the same isn’t resonating with voters.
Liberals have found themselves in panic mode. It seems the agreed-upon tactic for the closing days of the Harris campaign is — to quote former first lady Michelle Obama — to “go low.”
The latest Hail Mary from Ms. Harris and her advisers is that former President Donald Trump isn’t as sharp as he used to be. First, few believe this. Mr. Trump is traveling across the country, keeping a schedule that would exhaust a man half his age. He’s constantly in motion, hides from no one and is probably the most accessible candidate we’ve ever seen.
Nothing is more refreshing — or American — than a candidate who will answer any question on any subject at any time from anyone. That’s Mr. Trump in a nutshell.
Second, this attack from the same people who ignored President Biden’s cognitive decline for almost four years is beyond the pale.
When the American people look at Mr. Trump, they see a tested leader with uncommon determination and strength, running to save America from the failed policies of Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris. The kicker for Mr. Trump this time around is that voters remember that the policies he’s advocating already worked when he was in office. Mr. Trump delivered a robust economy and a border that prioritized our national security.
Unfortunately for Ms. Harris and company, for the past two years, they used what they thought was their best stuff against Mr. Trump, and he swatted it all away. When you consider what we’ve witnessed in this campaign, no candidate in the history of American politics and perhaps the world has withstood such an assault from a powerful, determined and deranged opposition. At this point, Mr. Trump should start playing Elton John’s “I’m Still Standing” at his rallies.
Think about it. First, his house was raided. Then he was indicted on bogus political charges not once, not twice, not three times, but an astonishing four times in left-wing jurisdictions around the country.
When that wasn’t enough, partisan judges in Manhattan tried to bankrupt him with more fabricated allegations. Then there was the failed push to defame him as an insurrectionist to keep him off the ballot so he couldn’t run again. And now, even in the face of assassination attempts, Mr. Trump continues to stand tall and plow forward to victory.
So, now the Harris campaign’s closing arguments have been reduced to feeble criticism of Mr. Trump for not doing another debate, whining about why he isn’t doing an interview on the biased “60 Minutes” and double-dog-daring him to release his medical records like some schoolyard game.
These are not the moves of a successful candidate with momentum in the last weeks of a campaign. These are the pathetic decisions of an army of Washington insiders wondering if they just should have stuck with President Biden after all — because, as it turns out, his grasp of the issues is far superior to Ms. Harris’.
The Democrats’ brain trust forced Mr. Biden out of the race and settled on a horrendously flawed candidate in Ms. Harris, who has nothing but a failed record and radical left-wing platform to run on that consists of the same policies that got us in this mess in the first place.
No matter how hard Ms. Harris tries to make this a campaign about debates and Mr. Trump’s medical records, Americans are suffering from the policies she has implemented since January 2021.
It’s clear that voters want a change, and Ms. Harris is the candidate of the broken status quo.
The American people are looking closely at this race. They are discovering that Mr. Biden’s failed record is Ms. Harris’ failed record, and the stale policies Mr. Biden was promising for a second term are the centerpiece of Ms. Harris’ pessimistic vision for the future.
Make no mistake: The 2024 presidential election is a referendum on the Biden presidency, much like the situation in 1980. Americans who had had enough of President Jimmy Carter’s economic malaise and foreign policy weakness overwhelmingly elected Ronald Reagan.
Come Nov. 5, voters will return America to the right path by electing Donald Trump as our 47th president.
