Fireman Ed, one of the most recognizable superfans in the NFL, said Tuesday that the New York Jets are trying to phase him out of games at MetLife Stadium.

Known for his signature helmet and fiery demeanor, Ed Anzalone has been a staple at MetLife Stadium — though he calls it “JetLife Stadium” — for years. But he said on Instagram this week that his beloved team is starting to neglect him during games.

“They’re phasing us out,” Anzalone said on Instagram, referring to himself and other superfans. “I’d like to know if somebody knows anything; please let me know, because it’s evident that it’s happening. And it needs to stop because we need home-field advantage.”

In previous home games, Fireman Ed would lead supporters in a “J-E-T-S” chant after touchdowns. The team’s video board operators would spotlight the chant to encourage fans to join in.

Things have changed during the last two home games, as Anzalone said he’s been left off the big screen.

“Something is going on,” the superfan said.

Social media users weren’t sympathetic to Anazolne’s plight, pointing out that he publicly renounced his fandom from 2012 until 2016.

“You’re just getting old and a little played out, maybe?” one Instagram commenter said. “Looking for something new and fresh? Who knows.”
