The Dallas Cowboys are off to an underwhelming 3-3 start, and owner Jerry Jones is feeling the heat. The ever-outspoken Jones had enough on Tuesday, firing back at radio hosts during a contentious interview on Dallas’ 105.3 The Fan.
The hosts asked the Cowboys’ owner and general manager what led to Sunday’s 47-9 loss to the Detroit Lions.
“I don’t have time for looking back on decisions,” Jones said. “Throwing all the good out with the dishwater, you have gotta be smokin’ something over there. … This is not your job. I’ll get somebody else to ask these questions.”
Despite his claims, Jones does not employ the hosts at 105.3 The Fan. The radio station is the flagship station for the Dallas Cowboys Radio Network, though.
Reporters from The Athletic gave the 82-year-old billionaire a chance to walk back his comments on Tuesday afternoon. He doubled down.
“If I’m going to be grilled by the tribunal, I don’t need it to be by the guys I’m paying,” Jones said, discussing his routine radio appearances. “I can take it from fans and take it from other people.”
Radio host Shan Shariff took to social media to clear up any confusion.
“Is this real life??? I WISH Jerry Jones paid me,” Shariff wrote on X. “He insults us again and we’ve had back and forth over WAY bigger things in our 14 years. I truly don’t understand what the hell is going on.”
The Cowboys visit San Francisco to face the 49ers on Sunday, Oct. 27 after their bye week.
Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated the date of the Dallas Cowboys-San Francisco 49ers game on Oct. 27.
