Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday sharpened her slaps at former President Donald Trump’s age and brain power after he finished a Pennsylvania town hall to play music for his supporters.
“Hope he’s OK,” Ms. Harris wrote on X in response to a post from her campaign that included a clip of the town hall ending and described Mr. Trump as “lost, confused and frozen on stage.”
Mr. Trump halted the town hall Monday in Oaks, Pennsylvania, after two lengthy interruptions because of medical episodes in the crowd. He said two audience members fainted.
After the second faint, Mr. Trump requested music instead of taking more questions. He remained on alongside South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, a fellow Republican, for more than 30 minutes.
“We could do another question or two if you’d like,” Mr. Trump said before changing his mind. “How about this? We’ll play ’YMCA’ and we’ll go home.”
“YMCA” played over the speakers, followed by “Hallelujah,” “Nothing Compares 2 U,” “Ave Maria” and “Rich Men North of Richmond.”
“Let me just give you the bottom line, though,” Mr. Trump said between songs. “We win Pennsylvania, we win this great commonwealth, we are going to win the whole ballgame. It’s such an important place.”
Harris campaign spokesman Ian Sams faulted Mr. Trump for “abruptly” cutting short the event and “standing on stage looking at his audience with music playing.”
“No explanation why,” Mr. Sams wrote.
Trump adviser Dan Scavino hit back, accusing the Harris campaign of manipulating the video to not show Mr. Trump stopping the town hall because of the audience members’ medical emergencies.
“Desperate times call for desperate measures,” he wrote.
Mr. Trump also pointed to the medical issues.
“The Q and A was almost finished when people began fainting from the excitement and heat. We started playing music while we waited and just kept it going. So different, but it ended up being a GREAT EVENING!” he wrote Tuesday on Truth Social.
Ms. Harris in recent weeks has sought to make Mr. Trump’s age and cognitive abilities major issues. It’s the same playbook Mr. Trump and Republicans used against President Biden when he was running for the Democratic nomination.
Over the weekend, Ms. Harris released her medical record, which states that she “remains in excellent health.” She called on Mr. Trump to do the same.
“Donald Trump refuses to release his medical records and he is unwilling to meet for a second debate,” she posted Sunday on X. “Why does his staff want him to hide away? Are they afraid that people will see that he is too weak and unstable to lead America?”
The Trump campaign responded by saying he has released updates about his health and shared records from a July examination conducted by Dr. Ronny Jackson, a former White House physician who is now a Republican congressman from Texas.
“Kamala’s Medical report is really bad,” Mr. Trump wrote on Truth Social. “With all of the problems that she has, there is a real question as to whether or not she should be running for President! My report is perfect — no problems!!”
Mr. Trump didn’t identify what he saw as the “problems” with Ms. Harris’ medical report.
Ms. Harris’ physical report said she has seasonal allergies and hives.
