Washington Nationals center fielder Jacob Young’s stellar rookie season could end with some hardware.

The speedy 25-year-old was named a finalist Tuesday for the National League’s Gold Glove award.

Young, the only National nominated for the award this season, joined Brenton Doyle of the Colorado Rockies and Blake Perkins of the Milwaukee Brewers as finalists for center field.

If he wins, Young would be just the third Nationals player to secure a Gold Glove since the franchise moved to the District in 2005. Ryan Zimmerman earned the honor as a third baseman in 2009 before first baseman Adam LaRoche joined him in 2012. The center fielder would also become the 18th rookie to win a Gold Glove.

Young posted a stellar rookie season as a premier fielder in one of the most valuable positions. The University of Florida product led major league outfielders with 18 runs prevented and 20 outs above average, according to Baseball Savant.

Major League Baseball will announce the 2024 Rawlings Gold Glove winners Nov. 3 on ESPN.
