OPINION:
According to evangelical pollster George Barna, millions of Christians plan to give voting a pass next month (“Millions of church-going Christians expected to skip voting in November,” web, Oct. 11).
If anyone has a particular stake in the upcoming elections, it’s Christians. Over the past 3½ years of the Biden-Harris administration, we have seen an increase in attacks on people of faith who oppose abortion, radical gender ideologies and government censorship, all of which is so prevalent today in America.
Just a few months ago, we observed Memorial Day to honor those brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in defiance of tyranny around the world. Today, however, the fight for freedom has been brought to our own shores, as we stand against the tyranny of a rogue administration that has weaponized the Justice Department, the CIA, the FBI and the IRS against the American people.
Who could have imagined a time when we would see what is occurring today, with men competing against women in sports, government-sanctioned censorship on social media platforms, transgender surgeries performed on minors and Christians being imprisoned for peacefully protesting at abortion clinics.
We would do well to heed the words of President Franklin D. Roosevelt in his 1939 State of the Union address. At that time, the world cautiously watched as Hitler’s Nazi Germany was emerging in Europe.
Roosevelt said: “There comes a time in the affairs of men when they must prepare to defend, not their homes alone, but the tenets of faith and humanity on which their churches, their governments and their very civilization are founded. The defense of religion, of democracy and of good faith among nations is all the same fight. To save one we must now make up our minds to save all.”
As Americans, we have a great heritage for doing good, ingrained in the principles of our Christian faith. There is a clear distinction between the “woke” Marxist agenda of Kamala Harris and the pride in American sovereignty embodied by former President Donald Trump. It could be people of faith who make the ultimate difference in this crucial election.
