Former President Donald Trump on Sunday praised Tesla CEO and X owner Elon Musk for his endorsement, saying he would create a new position for him in his administration.
“I’m going to have Elon Musk — he is dying to do this. You know, he’s a great business guy, actually. You think of him for science and rockets,” Mr. Trump told Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo on “Sunday Morning Futures.”
“But you know what? He’s a great business guy and he’s a great cost-cutter. You’ve seen that. And he said, ‘I could cut costs without affecting anybody,’” the Republican nominee added.
When asked if Mr. Musk would have a Cabinet position, Mr. Trump said the Tesla CEO doesn’t want to be in the Cabinet.
“He just wants to be in charge of cost cutting. We’ll have a new position — secretary of cost cutting, OK? Elon wants to do that,” Mr. Trump said.
He said that Mr. Musk is “a little bit different” and has promised Mr. Trump that he would get a rocket to Mars.
Mr. Musk has endorsed Mr. Trump and has been an outspoken supporter of him. He joined Mr. Trump at a campaign event earlier this month when the former president returned to Butler County, Pennsylvania, the site of the first assassination attempt against him.
Mr. Musk told the crowd that “this will be the last election” if Mr. Trump doesn’t win in November. He donned a MAGA hat while at the rally.
“As you can see, I am not just MAGA. I am Dark MAGA,” he said.
