Amazon Prime Video customers can buy an Apple TV+ channel add-on for $9.99 a month starting later this month, Amazon announced Wednesday.
Apple TV+ offers original shows such as “Ted Lasso” and “For All Mankind” and live sports, mainly MLB’s “Friday Night Baseball” and certain Major League Soccer games.
“We want to make Apple TV+ and its award-winning library of series and films from the world’s greatest storytellers available to as many viewers as possible. We’re thrilled that Prime Video will now offer Apple TV+, giving viewers an incredible breadth of viewing options,” Apple Senior Vice President of Services Eddy Cue said in Amazon’s release.
Amazon Prime Video has over 100 add-ons that consumers can buy for their subscription, and Apple TV+ will be available as a channel through the Amazon Prime Video platform without the need to download another app.
While Amazon will take a cut of revenue, its service offers Apple TV+ a lot more potential eyeballs for its original content.
“What we offer channel partners is hundreds of millions of subscribers around the world. We see a lot more engagement. We’re able to get subscribers for those businesses at a really attractive rate,” Amazon Senior Vice President Mike Hopkins, the head of Prime Video, said Wednesday at the Bloomberg Screentime conference in Los Angeles.
In addition to Apple TV+, CBS-related streaming service Paramount+ and Max are already available as add-on channels. Netflix, Disney+, Hulu and NBC-related streaming service Peacock are not.
In a recent report from streaming guide JustWatch, Amazon Prime Video commanded 22% of U.S. streaming market share, according to technology website 9to5Mac.
Netflix netted 21%, Max came in at 13%, Disney+ has 12% market share, Hulu 10%, Paramount+ 9%, Apple TV+ 8% and Peacock 1%.
