Democratic Sen. Jacky Rosen on Friday clinched her reelection to a second term in the Senate, clawing out a victory over Republican Sam Brown.
The Associated Press called the race with Ms. Rosen ahead by 20,571 votes and 97% of all votes tallied.
She had a dominant cash advantage over Mr. Brown, a Trump-backed Army veteran, and used that edge to pour on attacks regarding abortion and of him being a carpetbagger who only moved to Nevada in 2018.
“Thank you, Nevada!,” Ms. Rosen said on X. “I’m honored and grateful to continue serving as your United States Senator.”
Hours before the race was called in her favor, Mr. Brown sowed doubt in the vote-counting process.
When his loss was made official, he changed his tune.
“With President Trump leading, we stand on the brink of an era defined by renewed opportunity, unity and a firm commitment to the America First principles that uplift everyone,” Mr. Brown said.
“This is not a conclusion, but the beginning of a renewed fight for our values and our nation’s greatness. Thank you for believing in this vision for Nevada and for America,” he continued. “I’ve got you, always.”
Ms. Rosen’s victory also comes as AP called Nevada for President-elect Donald Trump, making her one of the few Democratic senators who outran Vice President Kamala Harris to win in a state carried by the Republican.
With the successful defense of her seat, Democrats now have 46 spots in the upper chamber versus the GOP’s 53. The last remaining Senate race to be called is in Arizona, where Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego leads Republican Kari Lake by over 32,000 votes.
