House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries congratulated President-elect Donald Trump, saying, “The American people have spoken.”

In a statement Thursday, Mr. Jeffries, New York Democrat, aimed to separate the Democrats from the GOP, emphasizing that his party “does not believe in election denial” and therefore won’t challenge the 2024 vote like Mr. Trump and his people did in 2020.

“Our Democracy is precious, and it involves elevating public trust in our system of free and fair elections, not undermining it,” Mr. Jeffries said. “We cannot love America only when we win.”

He called Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, who lost the White House race to Mr. Trump and Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, “remarkable public servants who ran an inspired and positive campaign focused on lifting people up.”

He added, “We look forward to our continued partnership on behalf of the American people in the next chapter of their public service journey.”

He would not concede the majority of the House to the GOP, saying, “We must count every vote and wait until the results in Oregon, Arizona and California are clear.”
